![]() ![]() A very engaging book with a lot of twists that keep the reader hooked on every page.Īmongst the Mist is completely different to anything I have read before, to be perfectly honest I don’t usually pick up a horror/ ghost story type book but something about this compelled me to give it a go and I am pleased that I did venture out of my comfort zone as despite a few initial reservations I did enjoy the book and will definitely read more of Raynor’s work. Swamps, mists, abandoned villages, thriving nature, and lack of civilization balance the cheery banter and jibes between the three boys. ![]() With a number of such tales exchanged between the characters, the reader is completely immersed in a haunted environment, trying to discern between story, legend and reality. Aside of the supernatural element, Rayner creates an ambience of spookiness with his setting - overnight camping trips replete with scary stories narrated over a bonfire. The reader is transported to the shadows to Sleathton Estate, hunkered beneath the mist, and lost among the abundance of trees. Is there something in the forest, or is the mist a cover to a portal? Are the stories just stories, or is there more truth to the missing children than what is revealed to the reader?Īmongst The Mists is eerie for its atmospheric writing, displayed by ML Rayner's prowess in classical horror. The house is covered in paintings of trees, and horror stories are exchanged about urban legends and myths of children disappearing in the woods. The next morning, one of the boys goes missing. Claiming to be a local with a cottage nearby, he offers them refuge for the night. When one of them gets injured in a fall, help arrives in the form of a strange, old man wielding an axe. Set in the eighties, a trio of youngsters embark on a cross country bicycling trip for an adventurous journey in the wilderness. My review is voluntary and my opinions are my own. I received a free copy of this book via Zooloo’s Book Tours. Fans of horror and the paranormal, bring your imagination and a flashlight, and be prepared for some terror, because we are about to travel into the Mists. The author’s note at the end is not to be missed as he tells of myths and legends that influenced this book. The fates of the children collide and the ending is surprising and unexpected. The mystery will keep you guessing until the end, and the cliffhangers between chapters raise the alarm level even more. Rayner perfectly blends ghostly figures, mythical creatures, and mysterious characters into a hair-raising but clever tale. Blended into the novel in separate chapters is the story of a missing girl, Olivia, who is chasing a ghostly voice through the same forest.Īmongst the Mists is a clever mix of paranormal and horror fiction with a heavy dose of folklore and sprinklings of the crime/thriller genre. When one of the boys disappears, Gregory begins to tell a story of children disappearing in the swamps and mists of the forest. The three boys hike into the woods and meet an old man, Gregory, who takes them to his house for the night. Marcus has planned a 9-day hike and decides to also bring along Jack, an odd new boy in town, much to Bran’s displeasure. Bran and his friend Marcus are going on an adventurous trek from their town of Bonhil Dale into the wilderness surrounding the mysterious Sleathton Estate. ![]()

The default input offset voltage is very low which is of magnitude 2mV. of comparators through 220 ohm resistor for indicating battery power status. I also understand that when the battery voltage is less than 6.9V the first transistor will not allow current to flow through to its emitter, and due to the 47k resistor there will be only a very small current through the green LED into the base of emitter 2 - not enough for it to visibly be turned on - which in turn allows current to flow through from collector to emitter of transistor 2 and causes red LED to glow. This is a very simple 9V low battery indicator circuit which has 2 LEDs. This current must first pass through the green light, which turns it on. The cutoff voltage is approximately 6.9V. ![]() There are two things I would like to change on this circuit. Can you please explain it to me? What I understand so far is that when the battery voltage exceeds the zener voltage + base emitter voltage of the BJT (6.2 + 0.7 = 6.9V) the zener will reverse breakdown and there will exist small current that is able to enter the base of the first transsitor, which allows current to flow from the collector to the emitter. I am re-creating a simple low-battery level circuit that turns on a low-power LED to indicate that the battery needs to be changed. It features creative level design, chaotic multiplayer fun, and some of the best power-ups Mario has ever gotten his hands on. The Wii U platformer was among the best games the system and the franchise itself had to offer. Super Mario 3D World was already an excellent game before its Switch rerelease. Whether you’re a fan of Monster Hunter, Pokémon, or Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter Stories 2 covers a lot of bases. The action goes even deeper than that, too, as players can raise their kinship with their monster companions to unleash combo attacks. It’s a game that rewards observation, as studying monsters can help prepare players for any combat encounter. Players can counter an incoming hit by picking the right attack. The game is most notable for its excellent combat system, which builds on Fire Emblem’s “rock, paper, scissors” mechanics. For those who wish the Pokémon series would offer up some difficulty alongside its creature collecting, Monster Hunter Stories 2 might scratch that itch. That makes it more akin to something like Pokémon, as players collect and train monsters. It’s a turn-based RPG where players befriend monsters instead of slicing them up. While the former is a big-action RPG full of hacking and slashing, the latter is more tactical. We can’t talk about Monster Hunter Rise without discussing its foil, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. Rise is a better entry point, making it one of the best games in the series for both old and new players. The main problem with the series has always been its complex RPG systems that can totally alienate anyone who’s never played a Monster Hunter game before. The real key to the game’s success is that it’s a little friendlier for newcomers. New features like the wirebug and Rampage quest types bring fresh content for fans who have already played hundreds of hours of World. The latest installment is one of the best entries yet. Now Capcom has capitalized on that success with Monster Hunter Rise, bringing the franchise to the Nintendo Switch. The game was a wider hit that started piquing more people’s interests. The tides started changing in 2018 with the release of Monster Hunter World. It was wildly popular in certain parts of the world, but the west simply hadn’t caught on. Go back just a few years ago, and Capcom’s action RPG franchise was a bit of a niche experience. Pardon the pun, but the Monster Hunter franchise is on the rise. ![]() With more characters, weapons, and secrets to uncover, Age of Calamity is a high-quality action game that sets a new bar for Nintendo spinoffs. While the game presents itself as a Zelda version of Rogue One, where you know that Hyrule is doomed, the story takes some unexpected twists that make for an exciting Zelda side story. It acts as a pseudo-prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and tells the story of the Great Calamity. Unlike the first game, Age of Calamity is part of the actual Zelda cannon. Nintendo capitalized on that promise with Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, a more fully realized entry that opens the doors wide open for the series’ future. It wasn’t a replacement for mainline Zelda adventures, but it showed that the franchise had some untapped potential when it came to side games. The hack-and-slash game turned Zelda into Dynasty Warriors with larger-than-life battles. When the first Hyrule Warriors game was originally released on the Wii U, it didn’t seem like much more than a niche spinoff. ![]() ![]() ![]() Local p = self:getVertex(v1):lerp(self:getVertex(v2), 0.5) ![]() create an entry in the edge map at this point Local ei = math.min(v1, v2) * vc + math.max(v1, v2) For the sake of simplicity, let’s define the center of the poly as the average of the vertex positions in the poly. To figure out how to triangulate a poly around its centroid, we first need to define the centroid. There are a couple of different ways you could define the “center” of the poly. This triangulation is useful on both triangles and polygons with > 3 indicies. Of course, beauty is subjective, so it’s good to have options for different types of triangulations, so that you can use whatever suits your particular algorithm best. Notice how the fan triangulation above creates small angles next to the index that was used as the base of the fan and notice how in contrast, centroid triangulation does a slightly better job of creating similarly-sized angles. By more attractive, I mean that if we proceed to apply a warp to this mesh, or extrude all of the faces of the tris we created, they’ll look more predictable and even. Mesh.polys = Įnd Fan triangulation of a 5-index polygonĬentroid-based triangulation is a slightly more attractive way to break up high-order polys into triangles. The header image used centroid triangulation on a cube made of 4-index polys before extruding it. visit every index between the second and second-to-last indicies It creates a new poly to store those connections and adds that poly to the end of the poly list. To create the new triangles that create the fan shape, the algorithm connects the first index in the mesh to every index between the second and second-to-last positions in the poly. The original poly is on the left, and the new ones are on the right. The illustration below the pseudocode shows an example of this algorithm breaking up a 5-index poly into three 3-index polys. This algorithm is useless on triangles, but is u seful on any polys with > 3 indicies. Storing the mesh with as little data as possible allows us to save memory space, and anything that processes the mesh (like the renderer!) spends less time traversing it. It breaks down high-order polys (polygons with >3 indicies) into tris without adding any new verticies. The fan-shaped triangulation is great as a last step before handing a mesh to a renderer. (again… these are NOT the scientific names for these algorithms… LOL) There are 3 algorithms that we are going to learn today: Fan, Centroid, and Triforce. But DO use it to get better acquainted with procedural geometry, make cool shapes, and have fun! So, disclaimer, maybe don’t try to base your Stanford 3D graphics paper on this blog post. BUT, I’m not one of those people, and I don’t think that the majority of people making games or dipping their toes into procedural geometry are! This post is focused on the visually pleasing application of these algorithms for procedural 3D geometry, and it is not focused on using all the correct scientific terminology. Tessellation and triangulation can mean complicated, fancy things to people who are mathematicians and computer scientists studying complicated, fancy things like computational geometry. This is where tessellation and triangulation come in handy! The algorithms I’m going to be showing in this tutorial break up the polys that make up a mesh without changing the shape of the mesh. We may need to break up polygons with lots of verticies into triangles, a necessary step before handing it to the renderer or prepare a mesh for a warp like stellation or extrusion to ensure that it’ll have lots of small details. Sometimes, we want to add detail to a mesh without changing its shape. There’s a fantastic demonstration of this on the manufacturer’s site, where you can see them pulling the handbrake with rubber bands: the further they pull the handbrake, the more the bands stretch, since they are experiencing greater force. The TSSH together with Thrustmaster’s TH8A shifter in a review by Chris HayeĪnother incredible bonus with the TSSH is the ability to use it as a sequential shifter. This brake feels incredible, and driving with it will feel as though you’re in an actual rally car. The handbrake is made almost entirely of aluminium and stainless steel, with the exception of the plastic handle. This is because of the very successful collaboration with Sparco, the TSSH being a 1:1 replica of Sparco equipment you would find within actual race cars. Not only does the Thrustmaster TSSH feature in our guide to the five best sim racing shifters, but it almost tops this list too. ![]() ![]() ![]() Strawberry quartz is also known for its ability to attract abundance into your life. Where do you start? Bill Bryson, no mean teller of a travelling tale, was bowled over by this book and exclaimed “Beyond terrific. This is a wonderfully evocative and epic account, written by a master explorer and storyteller. To help tell the story, he has travelled to various locations across the world - Tasmania, the Falklands, the Canadian Arctic - to search for local information, and to experience at first hand the terrain and the conditions that would have confronted the Erebus and her crew. And he vividly recounts the experiences of the men who first stepped ashore on Antarctica's Victoria Land, and those who, just a few years later, froze to death one by one in the Arctic wastes as rescue missions desperately tried to reach them. He explores the intertwined careers of the men who shared its journeys: the dashing James Clark Ross who charted much of the 'Great Southern Barrier' and oversaw some of the earliest scientific experiments to be conducted there and the troubled John Franklin, who at the age of 60 and after a chequered career, commanded the ship on its final, disastrous expedition. Now Michael Palin - former Monty Python stalwart and much-loved television globetrotter - brings this extraordinary ship back to life, following it from its launch in 1826 to the epic voyages of discovery that led to glory in the Antarctic and to ultimate catastrophe in the Arctic. Its whereabouts had been a mystery for over a century and a half. It was broken at the stern and covered in a woolly coat of underwater vegetation. In September 2014 the wreck of a sailing vessel was discovered at the bottom of the sea in the frozen wastes of the Canadian Arctic. I say that because CPN is the best for structured and research notes but not for right now unimportant to anyone but me notes, like gathering shopping comparisons or grabbing directions from a web site that I will erase once used. CPN has not kept up for the casual user (some software devs are good at keeping the app simple while making it very powerful…CPN is not one of them). When I want to jot down a quick note for later, or grab a bit of info to use later I don't want to have to figure out the program or remember how to utilize some overly complicated process.
